What you'll learn in the concept art program

Get more out of your education with a quality curriculum, career services, live weekly sessions with your industry mentor, plus support, regular events, and networking in our amazing online community.

Begin your Foundations and Asset Development semester by establishing a solid understanding of color, value, and light.

Look at how physical attributes affect design choices by learning perspective drawing and anatomy, discuss indirect versus direct design briefs, and learn to develop ideas based on the information being given.

As you put theory into practice you will explore Photoshop’s powerful interface and tools and learn time-saving shortcuts.

In Rendering Techniques & Character Drawing, you'll begin with lessons on how light and color affect mood before moving on to the creation of stylized materials and textures.

Discover how to develop an artistic style and apply life drawing and dynamic posing techniques to create and present appealing art.

The Layout, Level Design, & Composition semester covers the fundamentals of environment and set design starting with perspective drawing: the key to creating solid concept art.

Discover how to visualize environments by building matte paintings from scratch, using photo-bashing techniques and the paint-over method to acquire lighting and perspective information from pre-rendered assets.

In Characters, Creatures, & Enhanced Workflow Techniques, you'll use anatomy, posing skills, personality and character traits, and the environment to inform your designs.

Create backstories for your characters and experiment with color, posing, and lighting to engage your audience in your story.

Time to speed up your workflow using 3D sculpting and kit bashing techniques to quickly block out, light, and render your concept art.

Create dynamic compositions using ZBrush and Blender to continue to further develop your concept art skills and learn industry-standard workflows.

You'll start out by sculpting basic forms to generate quick renders, capturing detail and lighting. Then move to more advanced models such as the human form and complex environments.

Discover how to polish and present your portfolio to impress employers, learn how to network and market yourself effectively, and understand how to tap into the hidden job market.

Learn all you need to know to take your visual work and package it up for post-study employment. You'll explore avenues to host your work on industry websites to gain visibility, as well as ways to host work on your own site in a professional manner.

As a student you also get access to career services to get clear on your career goals, polish your CV/resume and portfolio, write appealing application letters. You'll also get an insight into freelancing: finding work, discussing finances, and applying standards for private client-based work.

Graduate feeling ready and confident to kick-start your career in this exciting industry!
