In the introduction to 3D modeling, you'll start with the essentials: navigating Maya’s interface, understanding professional workflows and commonly used tools, and building 3D assets from scratch.
See how to identify differences between film and video game models by learning high poly 3D modeling techniques, then converting your model for video games, and adding textures in Substance Painter.
During Character & Environment Modeling, you will build on your foundations with more complex exercises.
Learn 3D character modeling for video games and film using human anatomy basics and create a game ready, fully textured 3D character with hair, clothing, and accessories.
Then using an environment concept design, you will build a 3D environment from scratch, and finish off by texturing and lighting your environment for your portfolio.
In Character & Hard Surface Sculpting, you'll apply your character modeling skills and digitally sculpt a creature using ZBrush.
Take your creature to the next level by detailing it with skin, scales, and fur using various techniques.
Finally, you'll play with hard surface objects like weapons and armor to practice creating clean, smooth surfaces, and learn to pose and render your creature for your final portfolio piece.
Begin your Advanced Character Modeling semester by using human anatomy principles to create a character with believable form and proportions.
As you work, you'll learn how to retopologize your character to reduce poly-count and develop clean geometry while adding clothing, accessories, and details to create a completely textured and rendered character for your portfolio.
Master the art of creating 3D environments for film and video games.
Start by creating a base mesh using procedural techniques in Houdini to build a scene swiftly. Then explore organic modeling by creating rocks, trees, and foliage and learn how to use them within a complex scene.
A finished 3d environment piece is produced by following correct UV, texturing, and lighting techniques to add to your portfolio.
In this semester, you'll discover how to polish and present your portfolio to impress employers, learn how to network and market yourself effectively, and understand how to tap into the hidden job market.
Learn all you need to know to take your visual work and package it up for post-study employment. You'll explore avenues to host your work on industry websites to gain visibility, as well as ways to host work on your own site in a professional manner.
As a student you also get access to career services to get clear on your career goals, polish your CV/resume and portfolio, write appealing application letters. You'll also get an insight into freelancing: finding work, discussing finances, and applying standards for private client-based work.
