In 3D animation foundations, you'll start with 3D animation basics by diving head-first into industry software Maya to discover how to create believable animation using the classic principles of animation.
After learning the theories, you'll put them into practice through a series of exercises, gaining a better understanding of body mechanics and locomotion.
In this semester on body mechanics, you will learn 3D animation tips and tricks while building on your foundational skills.
Explore your characters’ interaction with their surrounding environment and physical forces, then move on to designing combat animations for games.
Build on the foundational skills acquired in previous semesters and begin to explore concepts of personality and acting in animation.
With projects that include a pantomime acting scene, a dramatic monologue, and a personality walk, you will focus on the art of animation: staging, timing, spacing, arcs, and performance.
By the end of this semester, you will have learned how to use animation tools to create organic, lifelike character acting scenes that breathe life into digital character rigs.
Advanced character acting is all about learning how to get your characters interacting in a fun and realistic way.
Discover how to analyze dialogue, shoot reference video, and set up scenes using professional workflows. You will apply your knowledge of shot composition, cinematography, layering, acting beats, and body mechanics to a scene.
Expand your versatility as an artist by mastering quadruped walks, runs, and jumps, and animating winged creatures.
Gain a solid understanding of creature animation and learn the subtleties of breathing life into your creatures.
In this semester, you'll discover how to polish and present your portfolio to impress employers, learn how to network and market yourself effectively, and understand how to tap into the hidden job market.
Learn all you need to know to take your visual work and package it up for post-study employment. You'll explore avenues to host your work on industry websites to gain visibility, as well as ways to host work on your own site in a professional manner.

Mentor of 3D Animation
Spectra is a 3D Animator and Abstract Painter with a passion for telling stories, bringing characters to life, and blending the bridge between art and technology. Currently at Ubisoft Toronto, Spectra has been animating for almost a decade, getting her start as a Pixar Animation Intern and working her way up through Playstation, Hinterland Studio and Digital Domain where she was a Senior Cinematic Animator. Spectra has several major titles under her belt, including Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Advantageous and the much anticipated Far Cry 6. Spectra loves to visualize things in a different perspective and believes art is one of those unique and diverse subjects that allows ideas to be expressed via a number of mediums. One is not restricted to just a pencil and paint.

From cartoons and comic books, to video games and movies, Michael loves animation and is on a mission to create magic and wonder by mentoring aspiring animators! With 20+ years of experience in the industry, Michael has worked for just about every major studio around the world including DNEG, Cinesite and Framestore in London, MPC in Montreal, Weta Digital in New Zealand, Pixomondo in Germany and Lucasfilm Animation in Singapore. Michael's credits include Pacific Rim Uprising, Black Panther, Venom, Beauty and the Beast, Mowgli, Artemis Fowl, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and 2, and The Clone Wars to name a few!
