What you'll learn in the 3D animation program

Get more out of your education with a quality curriculum, career services, live weekly sessions with your industry mentor, plus support, regular events, and networking in our amazing online community.

In 3D animation foundations, you'll start with 3D animation basics by diving head-first into industry software Maya to discover how to create believable animation using the classic principles of animation.

After learning the theories, you'll put them into practice through a series of exercises, gaining a better understanding of body mechanics and locomotion.

In this semester on body mechanics, you will learn 3D animation tips and tricks while building on your foundational skills.

Explore your characters’ interaction with their surrounding environment and physical forces, then move on to designing combat animations for games.

Build on the foundational skills acquired in previous semesters and begin to explore concepts of personality and acting in animation.

With projects that include a pantomime acting scene, a dramatic monologue, and a personality walk, you will focus on the art of animation: staging, timing, spacing, arcs, and performance.

By the end of this semester, you will have learned how to use animation tools to create organic, lifelike character acting scenes that breathe life into digital character rigs.

Advanced character acting is all about learning how to get your characters interacting in a fun and realistic way.

Discover how to analyze dialogue, shoot reference video, and set up scenes using professional workflows. You will apply your knowledge of shot composition, cinematography, layering, acting beats, and body mechanics to a scene.

Expand your versatility as an artist by mastering quadruped walks, runs, and jumps, and animating winged creatures.

Gain a solid understanding of creature animation and learn the subtleties of breathing life into your creatures.

In this semester, you'll discover how to polish and present your portfolio to impress employers, learn how to network and market yourself effectively, and understand how to tap into the hidden job market.

Learn all you need to know to take your visual work and package it up for post-study employment. You'll explore avenues to host your work on industry websites to gain visibility, as well as ways to host work on your own site in a professional manner.

As a student you also get access to career services to get clear on your career goals, polish your CV/resume and portfolio, write appealing application letters. You'll also get an insight into freelancing: finding work, discussing finances, and applying standards for private client-based work.

Graduate feeling ready and confident to kick-start your career in this exciting industry!
